Read to Speak, LLC, doing business as Read to Speak Media (“Read to Speak,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operates the Read to Speak website and learning service.

Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you visit readtospeak.com, create or use an account at spanish.readtospeak.com, or use Read to Speak as an independent learner. Institutional portals, including Tacoma Language Academy and Pierce College, may involve additional school or college practices and notices.

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the service, we may collect or generate:

  • Account information, such as your name, email address, password-derived authentication data, and account settings.
  • Learning information, including your learner level, readings and activities completed, comprehension responses and results, vocabulary-study progress, XP, and related progress information.
  • Course and enrollment information when you use the service through an institution, including classroom or course membership and an institution-provided student identifier where applicable.
  • Billing-related information for paid independent accounts, including a Stripe customer identifier, subscription identifier, plan, status, and subscription period. We do not store card numbers or other payment-method details; Stripe Checkout handles payment entry.
  • Communications you send to us through the service, such as feedback or support requests.
  • Technical information that is ordinarily processed when you use a web service, such as IP address, browser or device information, request information, security logs, and session or cookie data.

How we use information

We use information to operate and secure the service; create and administer accounts; provide readings and activities appropriate to a learner’s current level; save learning history and progress; process subscriptions; respond to requests; communicate service-related information; prevent fraud or misuse; and comply with legal obligations.

For institutional learners, instructors and authorized administrators may be able to view information related to participation and progress for instructional, administrative, or grading purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies

Read to Speak uses cookies needed for sign-in, session security, and the optional “remember me” feature. These cookies help maintain an authenticated session and protect against session replay. We do not use third-party advertising technology or third-party product analytics SDKs.

You can usually control cookies through your browser. Blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or using parts of the service.

Service providers and disclosures

We use service providers that process information on our behalf to provide the service. These include Stripe for subscription checkout and billing management, and Mailgun for email delivery such as password-reset messages. We may also use hosting, infrastructure, security, and professional service providers as needed to operate the service.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights, safety, and security of Read to Speak or others, to investigate fraud or misuse, or in connection with a business transaction such as a reorganization or acquisition, subject to applicable law.

Retention

We retain account and learning history while an account is active and may retain it after a course ends, a subscription is canceled, or access expires so a learner can return without starting over. We may also retain information for legitimate instructional, security, legal, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes. Ending paid access does not automatically delete an account or its learning history.

Your requests and choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with your account. We may need to verify your request and may retain limited information where legally permitted or required. Institutional learners should also contact their instructor or institution when a request concerns institutional records.

We may send service-related messages, such as password resets and billing-related communications, as necessary to operate your account. We may also send marketing messages where permitted by law or where you have opted in. Marketing messages include a way to unsubscribe.

Children

Independent consumer accounts are available only to users age 13 or older. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian. Institutional use may be governed by the applicable school or college's policies.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through the service or by email when appropriate.
