Privacy Policy

A Note from Andrew Snider

Your privacy is important. This policy explains what information "Tarea" collects, why it is collected, and how it is used and retained.

Information "Tarea" May Store

The information stored about you depends on how you use "Tarea". It may include:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your preferred name, if you provide one
  • Your email address, when used for your account
  • Your student ID number, when provided by a college
  • Your course or classroom membership
  • Your "Tarea" proficiency level
  • Your completed readings and learning activities
  • Quiz and comprehension results
  • XP and other progress information
  • Vocabulary study progress
  • Feedback you choose to submit
  • Account and authentication information needed to provide access to the site

How Your Information Is Used

"Tarea" uses this information to provide your account, connect you with the correct classes when applicable, record your learning activity, show your progress, and allow you to continue your learning over time.

If you are using "Tarea" as part of Tacoma Language Academy or another course, appropriate instructors and administrators may be able to view information related to your participation and progress in that course.

Data Retention

Completing or withdrawing from a course does not automatically delete your "Tarea" account or learning progress. "Tarea" may retain your learning history so that your progress can be preserved if you return for a future course or resume using "Tarea" later.

Losing access to a classroom, cancelling paid access, or allowing an access entitlement to expire does not automatically delete your account or learning history. Access and data retention are treated separately.

For courses offered through an educational institution, official course records may also be maintained separately by the instructor or institution through approved systems. Those records are subject to the institution's applicable record-retention requirements.

Returning Learners

If you return to "Tarea" after completing a course or after a period without access, "Tarea" may reuse your existing account and retain prior learning progress rather than creating a new learning record from the beginning.

Account and Data Deletion

Account deletion is separate from completing a course, withdrawing from a class, or ending paid access.

You may request deletion of your "Tarea" account and personal information. Some information may need to be retained when required for legitimate instructional, institutional, legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes. Where appropriate, information may instead be removed from your active account or retained separately from "Tarea".

Service Providers

"Tarea" may use third-party service providers for functions such as hosting, authentication, email delivery, and payment processing. Information is shared with those providers only as needed to provide those services.

Security

Reasonable technical and administrative measures are used to protect account and learning information. No internet-based system can guarantee absolute security.

Questions or Requests

If you have questions about this policy or want to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information, contact the instructor or "Tarea" administrator responsible for your account.
